SIR: It is great to see the large number of new converts to air transport generated by the low air fares resulting from deregulation. However, how many of these travellers realise that their personal accident insurance is limited to only $100,000? Not much money for a person with dependants who is crippled by an aircraft accident, especially after doctors and lawyers take their dip out of the $100,000.

The back of your ticket explains it all in very small print. How negligent of you not to have read it |

Yes, in our newly deregulated air transport industry, personal insurance is very tightly regulated by the Civil Aviation (Carriers Liability) Act 1959 -an upper limit of $100,000 per person unchanged since it was determined 30 years ago.

Of course, the Minister for Civil Aviation, his bureaucrats and the airline executives, don't give a damn - when they fly, they are covered by the bottomless pit of workers' compensation |

Which airline will be the first to kick this shameful example of unconscionable regulation?

Neil Humphreys,

Springdale Heights.
